Manuscripts Suitable for Consideration

Research Articles

Articles presenting important new research results. Included in this category will be single-subject experimental designs.

Research Notes

Brief manuscripts presenting pilot, preliminary, and/or exploratory findings or a new method for the collection or analysis of data.

Clinical Focus

Articles of primary clinical interest that serve to identify future research directions. Evidence-informed descriptions of clinical programs, and innovative clinical services and activities are among the possibilities.

Case Studies

Articles that aim to answer a specific clinical question related to a case, by using an evidence-based approach to support clinical reasoning.

Tutorials

Articles explaining/illustrating a clinical or scientific approach relevant to research and/or clinical approach in audiology and/or speech-language pathology.

Review Articles

A comprehensive overview of an area of speech, language, social communication, feeding/swallowing, hearing, or balance/vestibular sciences and/or disorders (i.e., systematic review or scoping review). Reviews should be prepared with the same rigour as research articles reporting experimental results and should be accessible to knowledgeable readers not expert in the subject area.

Length and Structure

Research articles, clinical focuses, tutorials and review articles are generally limited to 40 manuscript pages including abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices. A possible exception are review articles where summary tables may justify going beyond this page limit . This will be determined on a case-by case-basis.

Research notes and case studies are typically limited to 20 manuscript pages including abstract, references, tables, figures, and appendices.

Most manuscript types (other than tutorials) include an abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and relevant citations.

Journal Funding and Open Access

The Canadian Journal of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is an open access journal supported by Speech-Language & Audiology Canada. The association provides funding to cover all costs related to the journal, including publication fees. Therefore, there is no cost to authors for processing or publication, and all articles in CJSLPA are made freely available immediately upon publication.

Permission to Reprint/Reuse Material from CJSLPA

Speech-Language and Audiology Canada holds copyright on the articles published in CJSLPA, and therefore no part of materials published in the Journal may be reproduced or self-archived without their written permission. Individuals or institutions that would like to reproduce any part of CJSLPA material or to self-archive their own published articles need to seek permission by completing the Permission to Reprint form.
