| Abstract |
L'évaluation des troubles du langage et de la parole chez l'adulte francophone pose certains problèmes qui ne sont pas apparents auprès des bénéficiaires anglophones. Dans le présent article, ces problèmes sont discutés dans le cadre d'une évaluation systématique des hypothèses cliniques. Nous retraçons brièvement les étapes essentielles du processus d'évaluation en soulignant les sources possibles de biais linguistiques ou culturels. Ces biais sont liés principalement aux difficultés de traduction ou d'adaptation des tests étrangers et à l'absence de données sur les propriétés psychométriques des tests pour la population canadienne-française (p.ex. normes de référence, fidélité, validité). Des exemples sont présentés dans le contexte d'un compte rendu des outils actuellement disponibles pour l'évaluation de l'adulte francophone. Dans ce compte rendu, nous distinguons les outils disponibles pour l'évaluation du langage, de la parole, de la voix et du bégaiement. En conclusion, nous offrons quelques recommandations relatives à l'élaboration d'outils d'évaluation à l'intention des bénéficiaires francophones. The assessment of speech and language functions of Francophone adults poses certain problems that are not apparent when working with Anglophone clients. The present paper addresses these problems within the framework of a systematic evaluation of clinical hypotheses. Each essential step is briefly described and sources of linguistic and cultural biases are highlighted. These biases include problems with the translation or adaptation of foreign tests and the absence of data on the psychometric properties of these tests for French Canadian populations (e.g., norms, reliability, validity). Examples of these biases are provided in the context of an account of the tools available for the assessment of speech and language functions in Francophone adults. In this account we distinguish classes of tools available for the assessment of language, speech, voice, and stuttering. Recommendations regarding the development of assessment tools suited for Francophone clients are offered. |
